Draft Helena Township Board Meeting November 9thth, 2023
Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM. Members present were David Peterson, Bonnie Robbins,
Cathy Rice, Butch Peeples and Butch Bartz. Motion by Bartz to approve the agenda with the
addition of TAA under reports and supported by and approved. Motion by Robbins to approve
the October’s meeting minutes and supported by Bartz and approved.
Conflict of Interest: None
Public Comment: Carol Fricke commented on ceiling fan in gym not working and paint peeling
from the gym ceiling.
Treasurer’s Report: beginning balance October 1
st, 2023 is $459,565.66
Total receipts: $23,280.49 and total disbursements: $83,340.65
Ending balance October 31, 2023 is $395,505.50
Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Robbins and supported by Bartz and approved.
Presentation of Bills: October 1-31; $72,278.53 and November 1-9; $7,325.18
Fire Chief/Sheriff Report: Paul Fabiano presented South Torch Lake Fire & Rescue report.
Supervisor reviewed Sheriff’s report.
Terry VanAlstine gave county commissioner meeting report and it will be put on township web
site.
Mike Bertrum, president of TAA (Township Ambulance Authority) reviewed information
pertaining to Helena Township.
Communications:
Zoning: Reviewed Bob Logee’s zoning report.
Planning Commission: Bonnie Robbins reported on public attendance and concerns voiced at
the Oct. 19th and November 2nd meetings. Master plan update work will continue at the regular
meeting on Dec. 7th at 5:00 PM with public hearing with ZOOM in January to review the master
plan
Parks & Rec: Steve Dell reported P&R working on 5 year plan; 2024 to 2028. Public hearing on
December 13th. December 14th final 5 year plan to be presented to the township board for
consideration.
Roads: Butch Bartz reported the work on E. Torch Lake Drive was completed including the
striping. Estimated cost to finish E. Torch Lake Drive is $200,00 for 4,550 feet.

Motion to pay bills: Robbins made the motion to pay the bills and supported by Bartz and
motion carried.
