Helena Township Board Meeting
10/13/2016
Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Supervisor Rick Teague. Present: Catherine Rice, Rick Teague, Bonnie Robbins, David Peterson and Butch Bartz. Motion to approve agenda by Robbins supported by Bartz.
Conflict of Interest: None.
Public Comment: Michele MacMaster and Jesse Lane presented South Torch Lake Fire Department’s 2017 list of trucks and equipment to be purchased totaling $1,072,591.00.
Jack Findlay spoke about the replacement of the large Torch Lake Sign at the entrance to the Alden Safe Harbor and asked for help in contacting Burt Thompson/road commission. Findlay presented a donation check for $9,566.60 from the Alden Volunteers and DABA for the upgraded street light poles with the hangers for hanging baskets of flowers and a memorandum of understanding. Teague made the motion with support by Robbins to accept the donation check for $9,566.60 to continue with the purchase of the upgraded street light poles for Alden.
Sheriff Dan Bean gave report for September and presented their annual report.
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Robbins, supported by Bartz and motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: Beginning balance Sept. 1, 2016: $456,028.82

Disbursed: $55,935.86
Ending Balance: $402,527.71 as of 9/30/2016
Motion to approve Treasurer’s report by Teague, supported by Bartz and motion carried.
Presentation of Bills: September 1-30: $45,319.08; and October 1-12th; $22,905.29
Speakers: none
Communications: Peterson received and reviewed bid proposals for concrete pad under two recycle bins, extending the asphalt pavement around the community center, crack filling, resealing and restriping the community center parking lot from Elmers and great lakes Striping and Sealing. No action taken.
Zoning: Guy Molby gave his report for September.
Planning Commission: Robbins reported the Planning Commission approved the recent zoning ordinance changes and sent them out to area townships for a 30 day review and possible vote by Helena township board for approval in December.
Ambulance Authority: No update.
Parks & Rec: Peterson reported that the paperwork for the DNR grant reimbursement for resurfacing the tennis courts had been received.
