Minutes of Helena Township Planning Commission

April 13, 2021

Meeting called to order by Gurr at 7:05 P.M.

 

Opened with Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call:

            Present:            Jim Gurr                        Laura Westerman

                Absent:             Gordy Schafer             

 

Township officials present: Bob Logee, Butch Peeples

Approval of Agenda:   Motion: Bassil, 2nd Moglovkin. Carried

Statement of Conflict of Interest:          None

Approval of Minutes: As submitted. Motion: Moglovkin, 2nd Robbins. Carried

Public Comment:         14 in attendance.

Communications:         ZBA annual meeting announced. Gurr shared new ruling on signs.

           

New Business:             March 2021:      LU 2, FC 3, AC 0, PC 5, ZV 0

                                    Discussion with property owners about food oriented business proposed at their residence. Potential applicants have discussed the business with the Health Department and are working with them on any concerns for this type of business. Business would be to serve prepared food from a tent with proper refrigeration and food safety. They have conducted a similar business at farmer’s markets and private venues. Planning commission members discussed the process outlined in the ordinance and recommend they review that prior to the public hearing that would be required. Public comments on the quality and in support of this business. Peeples encouraged any township residents in the audience to attend future township meetings. Robbins encourage them to consider serving on a committee or commission. Robbins will post a notice for the public hearing at the next regular planning commission meeting.

Public Comment:         Bassil requested the sheriff’s department and road commission be asked to give their thoughts on any traffic concerns of patrons of the business parking on road shoulders. He is retired from MDOT and this was one of his duties so he has concern of the potential problems caused by this type of on-going business.
