Helena Township Board Meeting

January 10, 2013

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Rick Teague and pledge of allegiance was said.  Present: Teague, Rice, Peterson, Robbins, and Bartz.  Motion to approve agenda by Bartz with support by Robbins, motion carried.

Conflict of Interest:  None

Public Comment: None

Approval of minutes: Rice made the motion to approve the minutes from the December 10th Township Board Meeting with support by Teague and motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: Township beginning balance as of December 1, 2012      $210,143.65

Receipts               $177,248.13

General Fund Disbursements         $20,930.03

                                                                                      Cemetery & Bldg.          $5,183.18

Total Disbursements                      $26,113.21

Total Bank balance as of 12/31/2012               $361,278.57

12 month road CD of $70,000.00

Treasurer reported the profit and loss statement for the South Torch Lake Fire Department for July 2012 through June 2013.  Total income is $70,336.87 and total expenses of $60,238.23.

Motion to approve treasurer’s report by Teague with support by Robbins, motion carried.

Presentation of bills: Township: December1-31, 2012: $17,438.49 and January 1-10, 2013: $24,340.98

Speakers: TLA (Three Lakes Assoc.) Becky Norris, Tina Fields, and Leslie Myers  Becky Norris presented board with a memorandum of understanding and a contract for the application of an herbicide to treat the Eurasian milfoil in the Alden Safe Harbor.  The township board will make a decision at the February board meeting.

Communications:  Sheriff Dan Bean reviewed the December report and the 2012 report.

Committee reports: Zoning administrator.  Molby gave report.

Planning Commission:  Trustee Bonnie Robbins commented that they discussed a policing ordinance for not allowing motorized vehicles on township property such as snowmobiles on the ball park but at the present time there would be no enforcement.

Ambulance Authority:  Rick Teague reported that the Ambulance Authority in Mancelona expects to install a natural gas generator in the next 60 days.

Parks & Recreation: No report

Old business: None

New Business: Teague made the motion to accept the appointees to the Board of Review with support by Rice and motion carried.  Steve Dell, Ken Renaud, Steve Kershner and Dorothy Cole were appointed to the Board of Review with Bob Logee recording the minutes.

    The Alden Men’s Club requested  the board’s permission to apply for a charitable Gaming License which the board agreed to.

Announcements: None

Additional Public Comment: Paul Sak invited board members to a meeting on January 30th at the YMCA (Camp Hiawatha) for local government representatives put on by the local environmental groups.

Motion to pay bills by Teague, with support Robbins, and motion passed.

Meeting adjourned at 8:16 PM.
