Helena Township Board Meeting January 12, 2023
Meeting called to order at 7:01 PM. Members present were David Peterson, Bonnie Robbins, Cathy Rice, Butch Bartz and Butch Peeples. Motion by Robbins to approve the agenda and supported by Bartz and approved. Motion by Bartz to approve the December’s meeting minutes and supported by Robbins and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: beginning balance December 1st, 2022 is $496,585.72
Total receipts: $151,626.80 and total disbursements: $41,162.75
Ending balance December 31; 2022 is $607,049.77
Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Robbins and supported by Bartz and approved.
Presentation of Bills: December 1-31, $32,945.13, January 112th; $2,959.92
Fire Chief/Sheriff Report: Paul Fabiano reviewed report for STLFD. Under sheriff Kevin Hoch reviewed annual sheriff’s report for 2022.
Speakers: None
Communications: County commissioner Terry VanAlstine reported that John Strehl, Mark Stone, and Pete Garwood retired. Matt Wyman is the new airpor manager. Anna Hall is not head of Parks. Jeremy Scott replaced Pete Garwood. Heather Belkamp is the new animal control director. Janet Koch is the deputy administrator.
Received letter from residents concerning the public access at Lone Tree Point.
Zoning: Reviewed Bob Logee’s zoning report. Supervisor Peeples appointed Robert Clore, Tom Hammerstein, and Brad McArtor to the Board of Review.
Planning Commission: No meeting in January 2023. Meeting scheduled for the 1st Thursday in February at 5:00 PM.
Parks & Rec: Steve Dell reported that the two Sparks DNR grants had been submitted.
Roads: Bartz reported that township board request to do Alden Meadows was submitted to the County Road Commission. Bartz requested the potential costs for the north and south halves of S. East Torch Lake Drive.
Old Business: Fencing completed at the Depot Park and the community center.

Additional Public Comment: Monthly dinners at the fire department for veterans and their families. Jim Gurr commented.
Robbins made the motion to pay the bills and supported by Bartz and approved.
