Helena Township Board Meeting
January 13th, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Wagner and pledge of allegiance was said. Present: Rice, Peterson, Wagner, Gurr, Teague. Motion to approve agenda by Rice with support by Gurr, motion carried. Four people in audience.
Public Comment: None
Approval of minutes: Rice made motion to approve the minutes as amended, support from Wagner. Motion carried. Special meeting minutes to be amended that Jim Gurrr was not present.

Motion to approve treasurer’s report by Wagner, support Teague, motion carried.
Presentation of bills: Township December 1-31, 2010: $33,810.89 and January 01-11, 2011: $11,767.06.
Speakers: None
Communications: Sheriff’s report for December and for 2010 presented by Sheriff Dan Bean.
Committee reports: Zoning administrator. Molby provided board with December’s report and review of 2005 through 2010 report. Special use permit for living quarters above a garage was presented and discussed. Approval granted by Township board.
Planning Commission: Gurr reported that the applicant in the environmental district removed his request.
Ambulance authority: Rick Teague updated that work has begun on the renovations ($325,000.00) at the old fire barn in Mancelona to be completed in early June.
Old business: Michigan DNRE approved Alden harbor dock replacement project. Gurr made motion to approve Pete’s Contracting bid of $68,001.00 for Alden Harbor dock project with support by Rice. Motion passed. Brief discussion by board on summer rentals with areas to be addressed by planning commission; minimum number of days, identifying those homes being rented, local contact information, and behavior standards.
New Business: Reviewed library lease and tabled until next meeting. Proposal of the Helena Township Public Library becoming the Alden District Library was discussed. Questions to be submitted the Tuesday following this board meeting to the library board.
Announcements: In March there will be a joint meeting of the Helena Township Board with the planning commission the first Wednesday in March at 7:00 P.M. to review zoning ordinance amendments and revisions from Chris Bzdok. A second alternate is needed for the ZBA.

Motion to pay bills by Wagner, support Gurr, and motion passed.
