Helena Township Board Meeting
September 11th, 2014
Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance by Supervisor Rick Teague. Present: Catherine Rice, David Peterson, Butch Bartz and Bonnie Robbins. Motion to approve agenda by Bartz with support by Robbins and motion carried.
Conflict of Interest: None
Public Comment: Paul Delange reported that he had obtained approval from the Michigan State Historical Preservation Office for the construction of a shed roof off the West side of the storage building next to the Depot. Teague made the motion with support by Robbins to approve moving forward with the shed roof addition to the storage building. Delange presented the board with the design for a new railing design to replace the railing across Spencer Creek between Alden Outfitters and the Pear Tree stores. The Alden Volunteers will provide the labor and materials for this railing replacement.
Approval of minutes: Motion by Rice to approve the Augusts meetings minutes with support by Teague and the motion carried.
Treasurers Report: Township: Beginning balance as of August 1st, 2014 $505,023.69

Disbursements $71,151.11
Bank balance 08/31/14 $448,308.51
Motion to approve the Treasurers report by Bartz with support by Teague and motion carried.
Presentation of bills: August 1-31, 2014 – $61,874.72 and September 1-11, 2014 $4,549.57.

Committee Reports:
Zoning – Zoning Administrator Molby gave report for August. Copies of land use permits to be given to the Supervisor each month for permanent record retention by the clerk.
Planning Commission Robbins reported that private road ordinance language was discussed and one bullet in site plan review is to be removed containing language concerning any standards for private roads. Language for penalties for zoning ordinance violations discussed and will continue next month.
Ambulance Authority No updates.
Parks and Recreation Committee Ruth Smith reported that DNR plaques were needed for the Depot Park, Coy Mtn., and the Community Center. Motion made by Rice with support by Bartz to approve the purchase of three DNR plaques at $209.80 for the Depot Park, Coy Mtn. and the Community Center and motion carried.
Roads Bartz reported that he had received estimates from the county road commission for the maintenance of South Lake street, Paige Road, and Cemetery Road.
Old Business: None
New Business: Teague presented board with proposal to increase the salary of the maintenance person from
$2325.20 per month to $2440.00. Rice made the motion with support by Robbins to approve the salary increase starting September 1st with support by Robbins. Roll call vote followed with yes votes by Teague, Peterson, Rice, Robbins, and Bartz.

Motion to pay bills: Robbins made the motion to pay the bills with support by Bartz and motion carried.
