Draft Helena Township Board Meeting July 13th, 2023
Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM. Members present were David Peterson, Bonnie Robbins, Cathy Rice, Butch Peeples and Butch Bartz. Moved to the gym to accommodate large number of the public. Motion by Robbins to approve the agenda and supported by Bartz and approved. Motion by Bartz to approve the June’s meeting minutes and the budget hearing minutes of June 21 and supported by Robbins and approved.

Public Comment: None
Treasurer’s Report: beginning balance June 1st, 2023 is $766,202.25
Total receipts: $80,300.50 and total disbursements: $127,660.15
Ending balance June 30, 2023 is $718,842.60
Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Robbins and supported by Bartz and approved.
Presentation of Bills: June 1-30; $117,234.91 and July 1-13; $179,528.70
Fire Chief/Sheriff Report: Paul Fabiano presented report. Sheriff Dan Bean gave report and announced his retirement. Terry VanAlstine gave county commissioner meeting report and will be put on township web site.
Communications: None
Zoning: Reviewed Bob Logee’s zoning report.
Planning Commission: Robbins made the motion to approve the zoning ordinance language change of the size of accessory structures with support by Rice and motion carried.
Parks & Rec: Revised Sparks grant resubmitted June 28th. Traffic approaches to Depot park to be completed.
Roads: Dale Colajnni commented on the condition of Cemetery Road and wants to know the township’s plan for the maintenance of the road.
Old Business: Waiting on bids for remodel of Community Center foyer.
New Business: None
Announcements: Township Fire Department budget hearing scheduled for Thursday, July 27th at 7:00 PM.
Public Comment: Large number of the public gave comments.
Motion to pay bills: Robbins made the motion to pay the bills and supported by Bartz and approved and motion carried.
Speakers: STLFD budget
Public Comment: 3 minute limit
Robbins suggested that two members of the STLFD meet with two township board members prior to budget hearing to discuss the budget and questions from the board. Township board and the fire chief agreed to this suggestion.
