 Draft Helena Township Board Meeting March 10th, 2022

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM.  Members present were Butch Peeples, David Peterson, Bonnie Robbins, Cathy Rice and Butch Bartz absent.  Motion by Rice to approve the agenda and supported by Robbins and approved.  Motion by Rice to approve the February’s meeting minutes and supported by Robbins and approved.

Public Comment:  None

 Treasurer’s Report:  beginning balance February 1st, 2022 is $744,790.07

                                     Total receipts: $119,450.73 and total disbursements: $24,135.53

                                     Ending balance February 28th; 2022 is $840,105.27

Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Robbins and supported by Peterson and approved.

Presentation of Bills: February 1-28th: $14,422.56, March 1-10th; $10,753.43

Fire Chief/Sheriff Report: Paul Fabianoreviewed report for STLFD

 Speakers: None

Communications:  None

Zoning: Reviewed Bob Logee’s zoning report

Planning Commission: Discussed language for shipping containers used for storage.  Discussion of event venues in AG and legal counsel opinion on current language.  Counsel feels it is sufficient to support denying this use.  Changed meeting time for the Planning Commission to 6:00 PM the second Tuesday of each month.  Supervisor Peeples appointed Joe Basil and Laura Westerman to the Planning Commission.

Parks & Rec: Steve Dell reported on a planned celebration at Coy Mtn. Preserve July16th with Grand Traverse Land Conservancy.

Roads: Discussed request for chip and seal of the road at Alden Meadows which was last sealed in 2016.  Bartz to discuss with Burt Thompson on cost and priority and let board know next meeting.

Old Business: Budget meeting June 15th, 2022 to be held in government room, Helena Township community center and posted 15 days before.

New Business: Supervisor informed board of company (Steuer Excavating ) who will burn the brush pile behind the community center and bury fire debris for $1500.00. Board consensus was to go ahead with this burn and bury.

Announcements:  Magistrate inquired whether Alden would be having a Memorial Day parade in Alden May 30th with dedications at Depot Park and the Helena Township Cemetery.  The Board is in support of these dedication ceremonies.  Butch Peeples will be the contact person for coordinating the events.

Additional Public Comment: Jim Gurr commented.

Robbins made the motion to pay the bills and supported by Rice and approved.
